New Charity Digital Skills Report for 2025 Launches
22nd July 2025
Charity Digital has published its new Charity Digital Skills Report for 2025. The report, which was established in 2017 and updated annually, shows that the charity sector in the UK is increasingly adopting digital technology, with 63% of charities reporting digital progress, while 44% of charities now have a digital strategy in place.
Why Are Digital Skills Especially Important In The Charity Sector?
Digital skills are a necessity for many organisations. In the third sector, digital skills are especially important as they can benefit:
- Efficient working methods
- Effective resource investment
- Increased brand reputation
- Informed decisions and strategy
- Secure data protection
The Charity Digital Skills Report provides an industry barometer of the charity sector’s digital skills. However, this year’s report has shown a decline on digital strategies (from 50% to 44%), with just over a third (34%) advancing with their digital practices.
Surprise Results In This Year’s Report
Alongside a reduction in digital strategies, this year’s Charity Digital Skills Report contains some surprising results:
- AI adoption seems to be widespread, with 76% of charities reporting AI use in their organisations.
- Despite this, 36% of charities report that their CEO has poor AI skills.
- 23% of charities see data protection and cybersecurity as low priority.
- 28% of charities say that their boards have poor digital skills.
It seems there is quite a divide between charity staff and their boards when it comes to digital skills. However, an overwhelming 74% of UK charities say that digital is a priority for them. Read the full report and further case studies here: charitydigitalskills.co.uk
